Présentation
Le 6 février 2016 se tiendra la 43ème cérémonie des Annie Awards au UCLA’s Royce Hall à Los Angeles (19h heure locale). La cérémonie, retransmise en direct sur le site officiel de la cérémonie, sera présentée par les actrices et parolières Kate Mucucci et Riki Lindhome, plus connues sous les pseudonymes Garfunkel & Oates. Fondé en 1972, ce prix distingue l’excellence des séries-télé animées et films d’animation du moment.
Contrairement à l’an passé avec Dragons 2, les studios DreamWorks Animation ne sont pas trop representés dans les nominations en 2016, laissant la voie libre aux différents labels de Disney de rafler davantage de prix que prévu. En revanche, d’autres studios émergeants ou bien ancrés dans l’industrie cinématographiques tels que Blue Sky Studios et son Snoopy et les Peanuts ou Aardman Animations et son Shaun le Mouton risquent de causer du tort à la maison de Mickey dans la catégorie la plus prestigieuse de la cérémonie, le Meilleur Long-Métrage d’Animation. Du côté de l’audiovisuel, les trois gros empires de l’animation raflent la plupart des nominations : Disney Television Animation, Cartoon Network et Nickelodeon. Enfin, des nouveaux venus comme Amazon Studios espèrent séduire les jurys professionnels des Annie.
Du côté de la firme aux grandes oreilles, si l’année 2014 était marquée par l’absence de productions Pixar, c’est tout l’inverse pour 2015 avec Vice-Versa, Le Voyage d’Arlo ou encore Sanjay et sa Super Equipe, souvent nommés plusieurs fois dans diverses catégories artistiques ou techniques. Les Studios d’Animation Walt Disney sont logiquement absents des nominations 2016, n’ayant pas sorti de long-métrage l’an passé. La télévision n’est pas en reste avec les séries Souvenirs de Gravity Falls, Star Butterfly ou Wander. Il est à noter également la présence du film Marvel Avengers : L’Ère d’Ultron du côté des nominations techniques pour les animations par ordinateur. Toujours du côté de la technique, de nombreux animateurs et autres superviseurs sont nommés cette année pour Vice-Versa ou Le Voyage d’Arlo. Les Studios d’animation nippons Ghibli, mis en veille économique, ont beaucoup de chance de rafler le prix de la catégorie nouvellement créée du Meilleur Long-Métrage d’Animation Indépendant (hors territoire américain) avec Souvenirs de Marnie. Rappelons que le label Ghibli est distribué aux Etats-Unis par Disney, tout comme en France.
Du côté des prix honorifiques, la mémoire du regretté Joe Ranft, l’un des pères fondateurs de Pixar, proche collaborateur et ami de John Lasseter, à qui l’on doit les scénarii de Toy Story ou le cartoon Le Petit Grille-Pain Courageux, co-scénariste et co-réalisateur de Cars – Quatre Roues, sera célébrée avec le titre posthume du Winsor McCay Award pour sa contribution, tout au long de carrière, à l’art de l’animation.

Le producteur Don Hahn, l’une des éminentes figures des studios Disney depuis 30 ans, se verra remettre le June Foray Award pour son influence significative et bénévole / généreuse sur l’art et l’industrie de l’animation.
